Join the Capitol Hill Steering Committee on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Security and the COVID-19 Testing Toolkit for a webinar, Enabling Population-Scale Diagnostic Testing for COVID-19 and Future Infectious Disease Outbreaks, on Wednesday, March 30, at 11am (ET).

Reliable and affordable access to rapid at-home and laboratory-based diagnostic testing capacity across the U.S. is a key component of a sustainable COVID-19 recovery plan. Making diagnostic testing increasingly ubiquitous can empower people to make informed decisions to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic, public-private partnerships have led to the development and wide-scale production of new rapid at-home diagnostics and expanded laboratory PCR-based testing capacity. However, it is a challenge to ensure long-term public access to testing capacity even during times when demand wanes. Overcoming the challenges posed by market volatility and supply chain issues is necessary to ensure accessible and accurate diagnostic testing for COVID-19.

This session will explore how policy makers can work to sustain technological gains made in diagnostic testing during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and how they can expand applications of this technology to other health security threats.

·    Anita Cicero, JD, Deputy Director, Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security

Opening Remarks:

·    Representative Lori Trahan (D-MA)

The Steering Committee holds regular events focusing on lessons learned from responses to natural, man-made, and other complex public health emergencies, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and explores ways to better mitigate and respond to future health crises.

The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security COVID-19 Testing Toolkit provides information about specific tests and testing services to help employers or decision makers develop strategies to fit their testing needs.
